How It Works
There are three keys to building a website that supports you and gets better than average results.
Get clear about your ideal client.
Your website really is all about your clients, so getting crystal clear about who you best serve, is the foundation of an effective website. This is the non-technical piece, but without this clarity, your website will not reach the people you intend to reach.
Learn to manage and update the content yourself.
Creating a website for your business is a big project and requires a lot of time, effort, and resources. But creating the website is only the first step in your journey; the regular updates to your site – perhaps you’ll blog or write a monthly article — will keep it fresh and engaging, and allow for regular contact with your clients and potential clients.
You want to be able to do that yourself and to have a system in place that makes it easy and enjoyable.
Create a site that grows as your business grows.
That means you want a website with some growing room, so you don’t have to start all over again when you need to add new features. Long term planning and considering where your business may be in a year or two will enable you to implement solutions that can grow and expand as your business grows.
We’ll work together on your long-term vision, so that we have a solid foundation to build your website.
How we do it.
Here’s a general overview of our work together.
- We’ll first get clear on what you do, and who you do it for.
- Then we will determine needed functionality for your site, looking at what you need now and what you may need in the next two years.
- We will write up an overview of your site content, and prepare initial copy.
- I’ll create your site design based on the prepared site content. The idea is to work from the inside out (from content to design), rather than outside in (fitting your content into a design).
- I’ll then convert that design to work with your chosen Content Management System (CMS).
- I’ll add extended features and functions that your site requires.
- I’ll add your content to your main site pages (home, about, services, etc).
- I’ll then teach you how to maintain your site and add remaining content.
- Once you are comfortable with your site and how to maintain it, I will put it on the web.
- Post launch support for 30 days to answer any questions that come up for you about your CMS and maintaining your site.
So how much does it cost?
It depends on a number of variables. If we decide to work together, I will provide a detailed site plan and cost estimate based on your site requirements, so you will know exactly what you are getting and what it will cost. But know that I customize the work based on your needs and what will serve you well in the long term, not only on a predetermined “package.” For more details, please go to Services.
Not sure how to get started? The first step I recommend is to get my free web guide, Web Design One Step at a Time, a short E-Book that will help you make sense of website terms and lingo and demystify basic website problems and strategies. This guide will give you information you need to make solid, educated decisions about your website.
